Native to the lush rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra in Southeast Asia, Müller’s gibbon is commonly found in monogamous pairs and is highly territorial against intruders, often responding with loud singing. They live in close-knit family units, showcasing complex communication through vocalizations and intricate body language. The female tends to be more dominant over the male, especially in terms of vocalizations, which is how the pair maintains a bond and establishes territory. Gibbons are under immense threat from habitat loss and hunting for traditional medicine and pet trade, and sadly their species is listed as endangered.
